Vintage Vehicles

Old photos can hold wonderful glimpses into an era when they include automobiles, buses, trains, and airplanes.  This photo of a mother and daughters in the 50s living in Texas has two wonderful vintage vehicles–the car with the whitewalls and the retro trailer.  Priceless.

Remember

Scrapping relatives who served their country is a wonderful goal for a Memorial Day or Fourth of July celebration. This dear man is my uncle who had the most lovely red hair–look at those natural waves! He was a gentle person and when he served during WWII, he was a typist. When the bombs came, he grabbed his typewriter and ran! The family loves that story.

Baseball Grandpas

What are the chances that both grandfathers played baseball in the early leagues? Nancy Hill found family photos from her husband and her own family that tell a wonderful story of two grandfathers who probably played against each other. These are the treasures worth seeking out and scrapping. Thank you for sharing, Nancy.

How to Interview a Family Member

How often I’ve said that I wished I had asked the right questions about the life of one of my relatives who is no longer living. I recently found a wonderful article by Kimberly Powell who gives a list of 50 questions to get you started. Have your tape recorder or cam corder handy to get the full expression of the story from your oldest members because once they get started, you won’t want to miss a thing! The oral history will make wonderful additions to your family heritage albums. You won’t be sorry you took the time.

While you’re at it, answer the questions yourself for your children and grandchildren. Kimberly’s article is here.

Retro Elements for Your Retro Photos

Not sure how to showcase your old photos? There is no set rule for scrapping heritage.  Your style may be formal, vintage, minimalistic, or layered with collage goodies.  Here’s a sample of scrapping with retro elements for this vintage photo of my uncle, Paul, who was a lifeguard.
